V-Up
How to do it
Starting position
- Lie on the mat and extend your arms straight overhead.
- Bring your legs together, keep your knees straight, and lift them slightly off the floor.
- Look at the ceiling and inhale deeply through your nose.
Movement
- Brace your abs firmly and lift your upper body and legs upward simultaneously.
- When your body forms a V, reach your fingertips toward your toes.
- Slowly return to the starting position while maintaining tension in your abs.
Breathing
Exhale as you raise your upper body and inhale as you lower it.
Trainer tips
- Reach your fingertips toward your toes
- Lift with your abs without using lower back momentum
- Lower slowly under control
Cautions
- Your tailbone can hit the floor hard and cause pain, so use a thick mat.
- When lowering your legs, brace your abs firmly so your lower back does not lift off the floor.
- Bouncing back up with momentum
- Excessively overarching the lower back
- Straining the neck to tuck the chin
