Chair Sit-to-Stand
How to do it
Starting position
- Stand in front of the chair with your feet hip-width apart.
- Point your toes straight ahead.
- Bring your hands together lightly in front of your chest.
- Look straight ahead.
Movement
- Push your hips back and slowly sit down on the chair.
- Keep your torso upright and balance your weight across your entire foot.
- Push through the floor with your feet and slowly stand up.
Breathing
Inhale as you sit down, and exhale as you stand up.
Trainer tips
- Do this with a chair without armrests against the wall
- Keep your chest up and push the floor away with your feet to stand up
Cautions
- If your knees cave inward, it strains the joints, so keep them aligned with your toes.
- Arching your lower back excessively can cause pain, so brace your abs and keep your spine straight.
- Pushing off the knees with the hands to stand up
- Dropping heavily when sitting down
If you feel pain during the exercise, stop. If it continues, talk to a professional.
